Dark and trudging

Well sir, this is indeed interesting. At first I didn't really like the harsh tone of the piano used, but then after listening for a bit I realized it fits the mood of the song very well. I personally think it's a bit too loud though. I like the selection of chords used, very dark. I would have used a different bass sound, but that's a small part. 2:34 is a great part, very cool. Overall, I enjoyed it. Keep it up man!

hey thanks for checking out my music. yeah I just thought, hey I'll try...hmmm, the Godfather tune with my twist. Once again glad you like, yeah I was sorta debating the bass, but it sounded good on my speaks. think maybe the EQ is jammed on my system though. luckily still came out descent. personally my favorite part is that section at 2:34 when I low keyed in the heavier darker parts in with the sweet tune lightly kinda playin like its off in the distance sort of. PCE!!!

How the blues should be...

Oh wow, this is excellent. Certainly a rare find on Newgrounds. This website seems to be dominated my electronic music, so it's a breath of fresh air to hear songs like this. BloodFest made a great track, and you, sir, your vocals are great. I really love how it's raw. That is the essence of blues, the raw feelings and emotions expressed through the singing and the instruments. This 100% deserves the number one weekly position. Great work guys, keep it coming, Newgrounds needs you!

Thanks for the kind review! I'm glad you got the essence that I was going for!

A Newgrounds gem!

This song is definitely funky, and I absolutely love the drums sounds you used. The note choices are really great, and everything is mixed perfectly. The slap bass sound is flawless, the piano glissando, the shakers in the background, it all sounds great man. I also like the dynamics in the song where you play quietly, a nice touch. This truly is funky, and as a drummer it's always been one of my favorite genres of music. Did you play everything live, or was this arranged in music production software?

ChrisisD responds:

Thanks for all the positive words!! Nah this is just me and my piano... I did show it to my band and we're going to make a song out of it! But thats in the future ^^ Funk is indeed by far my favorite genre to play, so much freedom and the groove is just great. Happy music!! Thanks man! Greets!

Trippy!

Hahaha, I can see this being the track playing during the part in a movie where someone is tripping on drugs and they're seeing many bizarre things happening. You manage to do some cool things in here. If you could maybe incorporate some of these sounds into a song it would sound good.

lol thanks!

Nostalgia!

This is a Hardcore Techno remix if I ever heard one! I always loved this tune. It's gives you that very intense feeling of, "I must defeat this enemy to save the world." This really sounds great as a Hardcore Techno loop. I only wish you added the snare fills in from the original. Great work.

This needs radio play!

I love hearing tracks with vocals on Newgrounds. I have been dying to use vocals in my songs, but I just don't have the equipment for it, nor do I have the money to buy it. You also have quite a good voice. This reminds me of Apologize by One Republic. It has that Pop R&B feeling to it. My only piece of advice is tone down the Love Philter a bit at 4:20 and make sure your vocals aren't filtered with the music at that part. I like this, you have mainstream commercial potential! You should put your lyrics in the author comments!

Very accurate!

My only qualm with this piece is that some of the levels should be equalized better. When the main melody came in it was considerably louder than everything else, or perhaps everything else is too low. As a casual player of Starcraft I enjoyed this. It was cool to hear someone replicate it. Replicating songs by ear is also a great exercise to train your ear and it gives you a knack for song structure over time. Good work man!

^^ Thanks
After that Replicating songs line I had to look and, you compose!!! :D
Any tips on coming up with original pieces? I can walk around all day humming new songs and such but as soon as I sit at the computer and try I just destroy it ^^;

Thanks for reviewing, and Thanks ahead of time if you care to share any advice.

Infectious!

Very dark and intense. I actually like this a lot. For me, this is straight out of a first person shooter game with a theme on alien organisms. The drums are hard and pounding, which do a lot for the intensity. I also love the main melody, very cool.

I'm really satisfied with the effects myself. I rarely use transitions, and II've put quite some effort in the fine-tuning and layering of different sound processor layers to achieve the perfect depth to it. Making a deep bass out of a buzzing saw and keeping volumes together took some time but it was worth it.

Actually, I'm experimenting to find good industrial sounds with standard FL plugins.

More can be done...

This piece is lacking much, in my opinion. The strings sound nice and relaxing, although I feel there should be more going on. Perhaps some more instruments, or some melodies here and there. A bass end would be nice too. I also feel the drums are very out of place. It feels like there are two different songs going on, and if you want to add drums they should be slow and moot setting, rather than fast and jazzy. The song has potential, but things need to be added.

ok then mate thankyou for the advice

Awesome!

A song in 3/4! That's very rare for me to hear on Newgrounds. This song has a really cool feel to it. I like it a lot, very cool. The piano is also creative, and when the bass fades in it brings a whole different mood to the song. I almost wish it was longer too. I only have one criticism: the delay on the synth that starts at 1:09 is a little mismatched with the tempo. I have to disagree with the title too. This sounds more like battle music to me, or perhaps to a level in a platforming video game :P

I like this song. One of my favorites!

culmor30 responds:

Well, glad you like it. The delay on that synth is a bit annoying, yeah. I used a VST I'm not very good at configuring yet, but I'll try to keep the delay in-sync with the beat in new songs. And thanks much for the detailed review, always good to know what to improve on.

Drums are my life! I'm an avid freerunner, and I also enjoy snowboarding and skating. I love watching flash movies and making songs on FL Studio.
