A Newgrounds gem!

This song is definitely funky, and I absolutely love the drums sounds you used. The note choices are really great, and everything is mixed perfectly. The slap bass sound is flawless, the piano glissando, the shakers in the background, it all sounds great man. I also like the dynamics in the song where you play quietly, a nice touch. This truly is funky, and as a drummer it's always been one of my favorite genres of music. Did you play everything live, or was this arranged in music production software?

Thanks for all the positive words!! Nah this is just me and my piano... I did show it to my band and we're going to make a song out of it! But thats in the future ^^ Funk is indeed by far my favorite genre to play, so much freedom and the groove is just great. Happy music!! Thanks man! Greets!

Trippy!

Hahaha, I can see this being the track playing during the part in a movie where someone is tripping on drugs and they're seeing many bizarre things happening. You manage to do some cool things in here. If you could maybe incorporate some of these sounds into a song it would sound good.

lol thanks!

Very accurate!

My only qualm with this piece is that some of the levels should be equalized better. When the main melody came in it was considerably louder than everything else, or perhaps everything else is too low. As a casual player of Starcraft I enjoyed this. It was cool to hear someone replicate it. Replicating songs by ear is also a great exercise to train your ear and it gives you a knack for song structure over time. Good work man!

^^ Thanks
After that Replicating songs line I had to look and, you compose!!! :D
Any tips on coming up with original pieces? I can walk around all day humming new songs and such but as soon as I sit at the computer and try I just destroy it ^^;

Thanks for reviewing, and Thanks ahead of time if you care to share any advice.

More can be done...

This piece is lacking much, in my opinion. The strings sound nice and relaxing, although I feel there should be more going on. Perhaps some more instruments, or some melodies here and there. A bass end would be nice too. I also feel the drums are very out of place. It feels like there are two different songs going on, and if you want to add drums they should be slow and moot setting, rather than fast and jazzy. The song has potential, but things need to be added.

ok then mate thankyou for the advice

Awesome!

A song in 3/4! That's very rare for me to hear on Newgrounds. This song has a really cool feel to it. I like it a lot, very cool. The piano is also creative, and when the bass fades in it brings a whole different mood to the song. I almost wish it was longer too. I only have one criticism: the delay on the synth that starts at 1:09 is a little mismatched with the tempo. I have to disagree with the title too. This sounds more like battle music to me, or perhaps to a level in a platforming video game :P

I like this song. One of my favorites!

culmor30 responds:

Well, glad you like it. The delay on that synth is a bit annoying, yeah. I used a VST I'm not very good at configuring yet, but I'll try to keep the delay in-sync with the beat in new songs. And thanks much for the detailed review, always good to know what to improve on.

Rainy Day Goodbyes.

That's the picture I get in my head from this. A scene in a movie where a goodbye is taking place, and it's raining, complimenting the sad emotions, but also the new beginnings that will take place in the person;s life.

It creates a great a mood, and I like it. I also enjoy the brief stint in the oriental scale starting at 40 seconds. That caught my ear.

My ONLY qualm is that I wish the storm in the background was a bit louder.

Overall, A+ man. I love it.

Thanks for the great review! :)

Not half bad at all!

I actually quite enjoyed this song of yours, a lot of energy. I admit it could use a little bit more diversity, it would help add to the length, but otherwise, great job mate :)

DJ-Draken responds:

Thanks a lot.
I realize the diversity is rather lacking and such. I hope to add some more in the future. My main concern was getting decent foundation for the song that sounded at least something like a hardcore-ish song. Now's the time to iron out the kinks and add colour.

Thanks for the feedback. =D

Great work...again, haha.

This is what it feels like to me, what I personally pictured when I close my eyes:

A couple years ago, it was predicted that the world was going to end, and there was nothing the human race could do about it. For a while there was a great panic among the human race, many terrible things happened. People had absolutely no idea how to react to the end of the world. Every single bit of life on earth would end, and there was no way to prevent it.
Finally, the eve of destruction has arrived. Now everyone found themselves calm now. They were ready. People all across the world began to leave their homes, walking along the grass, finding a good place to settle down for the last time, trying to find Seats to the End of the World. I sat on a blanket with my girlfriend at the top of the grassy hill about a hundred feet from my house. We both sat there, smiling as we stared up at the calamity that would be plunging into the atmosphere within the hour. It was the beginning of the end for all.
"What a view", I said, smiling at her.
"Yeah", she said, "It really is".

LLAAPPSSEE responds:

I'm glad it paints a picture for you; that it can take you somewhere else for its duration. I would imagine people would just join in to accept the end of the world together rather than a horrible panic.

Absolutely Idyllic.

I really love the pensive sound of the beginning, and even when the drums kick in, it still manages to retain that very chill, relaxing mood. The drum effects are excellent, it sounds like brush sticks are being used on the snare which is a perfect choice for this kind of mood. May I ask what program you use?

Also, I might ask in the near future to use one of your songs for a freerunning video my buddies and I are making. I would absolutely love to use one of your songs in my portion of the video. I think it would set the mood very nicely. Is there any way I can contact you, such as a screen name or e-mail?

LLAAPPSSEE responds:

Hey, thanks for the review, man. It's awesome to hear you like it. Definitely one of my more chill tracks. I too, thought that the brushes would make a nice choice, i love their sound. I made this with FL, entirely.

As far as you wanting to use one my songs for your freerunning video that would be awesome. I love parkour, som really awesome stuff. Just let me know. I'd like to see the video and all. I'll send you my screen name via ng mail.

Drums are my life! I'm an avid freerunner, and I also enjoy snowboarding and skating. I love watching flash movies and making songs on FL Studio.
